Kapir Shelter, 2017

Kapir is a Kurdish word for this specific type shelter. This collection of Kapir structures were built for melon trade along a busy stretch of road in the province of Erbil, South Kurdistan, an area is renowned for its honey melon.
They are simple and utilitarian, built intuitively for the provision of shade. In winter Kapir are temporarily abandoned as local melon farming ceases; the unkempt appearance, copper leaves, weathered fabric evoke a sense of absence as they wait silently in their place until once again needed.
